Research interests
Insect systematics, taxonomy, diversity, ecology, and biogeographic ecology of the subfamily Entiminae.
Since I was a child I enjoyed contemplating nature, in elementary school the subjects I enjoyed the most were the natural sciences. I started working with butterflies in my undergraduate studies; later, in my Master's degree I worked with moth systematics, and in my doctorate, I started working with weevils with Dr. Juan José Morrone. The project we developed was a cladistic analysis of the Pantomorus-Naupactus complex (Curculionidae: Naupactini) of North and Central America. This research allowed me to conduct several field trips from the coasts of Jalisco to Chiapas in Mexico. When I began to observe, curate, and identify the material, I realized that this group had been little studied in Mexico, since the work developed by Sharp (1891) and Champion (1911) in the Biologia Centrali-Americana.
Subsequently, in 2012 I started to work as a Research Professor at the Universidad del Estado de Morelos. Since then I have been dedicated to collect material of Entiminae, in different states of the Mexican Republic. I have mainly focused on their taxonomy, systematics, ecology, and biogeography. The development of several projects has allowed me to dedicate time to the determination of the Entiminae of Mexico, besides hypothesizing their phylogenetic relationships, learning about their distributional patterns and their ecological niches. Since then, together with the thesis students of the laboratory, we have found new species, new records for Mexico, as well as several endemic species.
I am open to collaborating to continue learning about the intriguing and extraordinary world of weevils.
