Entomologist, Travelling Zoologist and Researcher at Natural History Museum, University of Oslo, Norway. Nikolai has been focusing on the subfamily Entiminae (ca. 14,700 described species) since 1995. Nikolai curates the World catalogue of Entiminae within the Catalogue of Life Project. He co-founded and leads the Ukrainian Biodiversity Information Network (UkrBIN) since 2017.

Nikolai participates in multiple projects on the ecology and biodiversity of tropical rainforests in Africa, Indomalaya, and South America. He has over 20 years of fieldwork experience in 6 ecozones of 5 continents of the Earth:
