Colección del Museo de Insectos de la Universidad de Costa Rica

Country: Costa Rica

Category: Institutional

Institution: Universidad de Costa Rica

Address: Ciudad Universitaria Rodrigo Facio Brenes, San José, San Pedro, Costa Rica

Brief description of weevil holdings: The Curculionidae collection has been developed based on insects collected by the Museum staff, as well as by students of the entomology course in the territory of Costa Rica. In addition, some of the weevils are obtained from the reception of insects of agricultural importance for their identification. The weevils are organized according to the phylogeny defined by The World Catalog of Curculionidae by Alonso-Zarazaga & Lyal. The insects are organized on trays, in drawers inside entomological cabinets. A special emphasis has been placed on the quality of the mounting of the insects. The weevils of the Entiminae subfamily are currently being incorporated into the Ecdysis database developed by the Arizona State University (United States of North America).
